Happy New Year...Now What?
by Carrie Marsh
I always dread the first day of the new year. I rank making new year's resolutions right up there with getting a root canal. Painful. I always vow to lose weight, eat right, and find joy in the little things. Then it's January 1st again, and I'm right back where I started--overweight and grumpy.
This year, therefore, I resolve to do it all differently! Take the weight thing, for instance. This year, I'll go for a walk on every day that I can manage, and I will quit worrying about it. There, that feels better. Instead of looking at the end result of a finished book, I will simply sit down and write every day. Doesn't matter what I write, really, as long as I'm writing every day. I do have several projects that I would like to finish, so as long as I'm writing everyday anyway...
Have you made your writing resolutions yet? I contacted several people and here's what they had to say:
- Stephanie Abney: finish screenplay, "On Her Honor," and try to sell it.
- Linda Whiting: finish her book on David Patten this spring, and send it to publisher. She is hoping to have it accepted this year.
- Gayla Wise: working on book about patriarchal blessings, hopes to finish this year.
- Becky Rohner: had so much fun winning a contest, that she wants to sell another book this year.
One more goal for this year: write an article for the newsletter! Since I seem to be doing a lot of this, the goal is for each of you who receive it. This isn't my newsletter, it's yours. Take a look at the topics to the left, choose one, write about it, and send it--today. Don't wait until closer to the deadline; by then, you'll have forgotten all about it. I can always use ideas for what would be beneficial to you to learn about, as well.
Enough preaching. Happy new year, happy writing.
