Writer's Challenge
by Connie White General Vice President
Isn't it gratifying to see our words in print, and to know that our thoughts, feelings and imagination can touch someone else's life? It's an inspiration that we have so many of our sisters who are published authors. I already have quite a collection of their books.
I am searching for the right pair of bookends to have pride of place on the shelf over my computer and hold nothing but the books of my ANWA sisters. Right in the center, I will put a spacer with my name on it. How exciting the day when I can replace the spacer with my own published book. That is my ultimate goal. However, that will not make me more of a writer.
There are many of us who may never receive the acclaim of a published work with a check from a publisher to prove that we are a writer. But, we are. We write our own poems for our greeting cards, songs for church, plays for Relief Society, stories to encourage our children. The list could go on endlessly. We would like to recognize these things in our newsletter.
We are going to add a few new things to "Of Good Report". One is a recognition section. Please let us know when you have finished a writing project. Let's keep it brief, but let us share in your successes. An example might be, "It was so exciting to watch the performance of the play I wrote for the Relief Society Birthday celebration in our Stake."
We are also extending an invitation for one sister from each chapter of ANWA to submit an article for the newsletter each month. The topics are listed several months in advance so you can pick a topic that appeals to you, or you can choose your own. In Southeast Scribes, when the idea was presented, there was a lot of enthusiasm. We have volunteers for the next several issues.
What a perfect opportunity to see your words in print!
Happy Writing!
