Pick a Genre

by Carrie Marsh

If I had to actually choose a genre that I'm most fond of, I guess I'd go with Science Fiction...no, wait, Mysteries...no, wait...Gothic Mysteries...or maybe suspense.

Well, you get the picture. I like a huge variety of subjects. So, in my writing, what do I choose? Well, it depends on my mood. Many times, I sit down and all that will come to me is a romance. I don't even read romances! Well, unless you count Barbara Michaels' books as romances. I guess they are, but they're also mysteries.

And don't even get me started on craft books. That's what I'm currently working on. My problem is, that as I do research, I get a little too caught up in what I'm reading, and forget that I'm supposed to be looking for ideas.

Luckily for me, in order to be a good writer, it helps to be a voracious reader. If I ever get published, it will be because I've spent a gazillion hours on my sofa, reading.

So, what does everyone else read/write? We have a wide variety of writers in our group. Some women are reporters, and write the news. How about biographers? We have a few of those, too. Marsha Ward is a Western writer; Janette Rallison writes romances and young adult fiction; Kerry Blair and Jeni Grossman both write wonderful LDS novels. There are many others who I could mention here, but because of time and space constraints, I must limit my list to just a few.

This issue may seem a little frivolous, when compared to next month's theme of grammar and spelling (and I'd like to hear from more of you than just Delsa!), but it's been interesting reading what other people like to read/write, and why.
